Tom Karrel: Why I Canceled Group Last Week
Hey guys,
Last week I cancelled my GFM group. I was sick, and my body was waving every flag it had to tell me: Rest. Now.
But here’s the real message: Maybe you need to rest too.
When someone else isn’t feeling well, I’m usually the first to say, “Slow down. Take care of yourself.”
But I rarely extend that same grace to myself.
Last week, I didn’t want to be a hypocrite. So I gave myself permission to rest and unplug.
We push hard. Always doing. Always striving. But if we don’t pause—even for a few breaths—life can pass us by.
So here’s your invitation:
Take three slow, deep breaths.
Put your hand on your chest.
Ask yourself: What would it feel like to slow down, just a little?
Your body’s cues matter. And rest isn’t weakness—it’s a strategy. It’s how we stay in the game for the long haul.
Thanks for understanding. I’ll be back this Wednesday for our “Feeling Lost & Stuck” group. We will practice slowing down first, so that we can speed up later.
I’d love to see you there.
Big love,
Tom
The Quote
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." – Ferris Bueller
When’s the last time you had an honest day off? Not to check out, but to actually check in with yourself and rest. Maybe doing less is the thing that will bring you more.
Tool for this Week: Do Less
There’s already so much input coming at us—podcasts, posts, pressure. This week, try this instead:
-
Turn down the noise
-
Lower your inputs
-
Stick with the simple practices you already trust
See what happens when you stop chasing and start noticing. You might just realize: everything still works out—even if your entire to-do list doesn’t get done.
