How to Stop Watching Porn as a Man
Coach’s Corner: Handpicked for You
Pornography is easier to access than ever. A 2020 survey by Statista found that 50-70% of men watch porn at least once a week, with 10-20% watching daily.
It’s just a click away, no matter what device you’re on. Sometimes, it even finds you—through ads, pop-ups, and algorithms designed to capitalize on moments of doubt, uncertainty, or emotional stress.
But here’s the truth: porn has far less to do with sex and desire than it does with emotional regulation. It’s often an escape—a way to shift your emotional and physical state when you don’t know what else to do.
And yet, porn is likely stealing your focus, energy, and confidence. If you’ve tried to quit before and struggled, the problem isn’t a lack of willpower. The real issue is not having the right strategy.
In this video, I break down a simple, practical approach to stop watching porn for good—without guilt or shame. You’ll learn why quitting isn’t about “resisting” but about understanding your triggers, redirecting your energy, and using a powerful tool called Urge Surfing to break the cycle.
Power Tool of the Week: Urge Surfing
When the urge to watch porn hits, don’t fight it—ride the wave.
Urge Surfing is a technique where you observe your craving like a wave in the ocean. Instead of resisting or indulging, you simply notice it, let it rise, and watch it pass.
Here’s how to practice it:
✅ 1. Pause and Breathe – When the urge arises, don’t react immediately. Take a few deep breaths and acknowledge the feeling without judgment.
✅ 2. Observe the Urge – Get curious. Where do you feel it in your body? What thoughts come up? Watch the sensation like a wave cresting and falling.
✅ 3. Move Your Body – Shift your state. Do 10 pushups, splash cold water on your face, or step outside. Movement resets your mind.
✅ 4. Delay for 10 Minutes – Tell yourself, “I can watch if I want to, but I’ll wait 10 minutes first.” Most of the time, the urge will pass before you act on it.
✅ 5. Release the Shame – If you still choose to watch, don’t waste hours or days shaming yourself. Own the decision, let it go, and move forward.
This isn’t about perfection—it’s about interrupting the pattern. The more you practice Urge Surfing, the less power this habit will have over you.
Try it this week and see what happens.
